How to Get from Via dei Tribunali to Vomero

Vomero sits on the city’s main hill, but reaching it from Interno16HolidayHome is incredibly easy and serves as a memorable part of the journey itself. You have two highly convenient options:

1. The Art Subway (Line 1): Take a short walk to either the Duomo or Museo station. Hop on the train and get off at Vanvitelli. Beyond the convenience, you will get to admire the stations themselves, which double as world-renowned contemporary art masterpieces (most notably, the award-winning Toledo station).
2. The Central Funicular (Funicolare Centrale): If you fancy a stroll down Via Toledo first, you can catch the Central Funicular at Piazzetta Augusteo. In just a few minutes of a scenic uphill cable car ride, you will find yourself gliding above the city, transitioning from the bustling historic center to the quiet of the hill.

What to See in Vomero: History and Postcard Views

Vomero boasts some of the highest and most spectacular vantage points in Naples. Here are the landmarks you absolutely shouldn’t miss:

The San Martino Belvedere and Castel Sant’Elmo

This is the highest point of the neighborhood, offering a breathtaking 180-degree view of the Gulf, Mount Vesuvius, and Capri.

• Castel Sant’Elmo: A medieval fortress carved directly into the volcanic tuff rock. Head up to the Piazza d’Armi for a 360-degree walkway. From up here, if you look straight down, you can clearly spot Spaccanapoli and the area surrounding Via dei Tribunali: a perfectly straight line cutting right through the ancient city.
• Certosa di San Martino: Located just below the castle, this stunning Baroque monastery features a must-visit museum, beautiful royal gardens, and one of the most important collections of historic nativity scenes (presepi) in the world.

With its 414 steps (entirely downhill!), it will gently lead you back toward the historic center. Along the way, it reveals hidden rural landscapes, urban gardens, and stunning vistas that change with every turn.
